CSD Environmental Services, Inc. (CSD) is a woman-owned business, offering low-cost, expert environmental drilling and sampling services throughout Illinois and surrounding states.  CSD utilizes an AMS 9600 PowerProbe™ direct-push unit mounted on a compact track loader.  This combination results in an extremely maneuverable rig which can operate in even the smallest and tightest of drilling locations. This rig has a hydraulic hammer (Stanley SK58), and has both rotational and percussion capabilities. The SK58 allows drilling in frozen ground, through pavement and asphalt.

Direct-Push Soil Sampling

CSD provides direct-push soil sampling to depths up to 100 feet.  The PowerProbe retrieves either 1.5″ or 2″ diameter continuous samples, in accordance with the IEPA guidance document, “Use of Push-Driven Technology.”  The larger diameter cores allow for more accurate geologic characterization, along with greater sample volume for laboratory analysis.

Direct-Push Groundwater Sampling

CSD can collect direct-push groundwater samples from saturated deposits ranging from clean sands and gravels to silty units, without the installation of monitor wells. Discrete samples can be collected from multiple depth intervals within a single saturated unit, or from multiple distinct saturated units within a single boring, using our dual- tube system.  The dual tube system allows us to effectively case off overlying layers, allowing for sample collection in collapsing soils, and prevents downward migration of contaminants during sampling, allowing for discrete sampling through multiple saturated zones.  The sampling device features a 24″ retractable sampling tip which reduces suspended solids. The system, combined with low-flow purging and sampling techniques, provides very reliable results and produces minimal purge water.

Direct-Push Soil Gas Sampling

The dual tube system is recommended by IEPA for soil gas sampling in order to avoid vapor drawdown from overlying soils.  This allows for discrete soil vapor sample collection at various depths within a single borehole, and effective vertical profiling of soil vapor concentrations in the subsurface.

Hollow-Stem Augering

The PowerProbe can be converted from direct-push to turn either 3-1/4″ or 4-1/4″ I.D. hollow-stem augers, capable of cutting boreholes up to 8 inches in diameter.  The auger drive head generates up to 5,000 foot-pounds of torque, and allows for both forward and reverse drilling. Our rig can be converted, on-site, from probing to hollow-stem augering in less than 60 seconds. The ability to provide both probing and augering with a single rig has proven to be extremely valuable and cost effective for many of our clients. With these capabilities, CSD can install monitor wells, piezometers, lysimeters, recovery wells, etc.

Pressurized Injection of Remediation Fluids

CSD specializes in the high-pressure injection of remediation fluids, for both in-situ bioremediation and in-situ chemical oxidation. CSD's capabilities include both vertical drilling and horizontal directional drilling, thereby pinpointing exact treatment location with very little site disruption. Our custom dual-hopper mixing and injection equipment can apply ORC®, HRC®, or any combination of remediation fluids at flow rates ranging from 1 to 5 gallons per minute, and pressures ranging from 40 to 3,000 PSI.  By distributing remediation fluids to the subsurface under pressure, remediation efficiency can be vastly increased. In-house, CSD can assist you in the site-specific design of injection mixtures and pressure specifications. CSD has developed proprietary software to tailor the optimum design and application rates.

Tank Removal & Excavation Services

CSD is an OSFM-licensed underground storage tank removal contractor, and regularly removes tanks as small as 500 gallons and as large as 25,000 gallons.  CSD also provides remedial excavation and disposal services and LUST reporting.  The experience and expertise of CSD personnel ensure that your tank removal project will be completed in accordance with all state and federal regulations, and that any associated environmental risks will be managed appropriately to help protect you from future liability.
